Posted by Kelseigh Wrigley 29/08/2023
Been toying with the idea of installing a Tesla Powerwall, but put off by the significant upfront costs? Origin Energy’s latest deal may just have the solar savings you’ve been dreaming of.
The utilities powerhouse is shaving up to $3,800 off the cost of a brand-new Tesla Powerwall for eligible households in New South Wales, Victoria, south-east Queensland and South Australia.
Under this offer, all households will save $2,300 off the standalone price of a Tesla Powerwall, with an additional $1,500 available to those who also agree to join Origin Energy’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) – Origin Loop.
Households can earn their $2,300 Tesla Powerwall discount as part of a standalone battery installation or through a solar panel and battery package from Origin Energy. Payment plans with $0 deposits are also available on these installations.
Customers interested in the additional $1,500 discount for joining Origin Loop however, will need to stay in the program for five years in order to be eligible for the full discount.
Households keen to cash in on this deal will need to get in quick though, as the offer closes September 15, 2023.
For the full terms and conditions of this offer, it is best to visit the Origin Energy website for more details.

Origin Loop is Origin Energy’s own smart network that connects solar batteries in a localised area, allowing eligible customers to share their renewable energy with their neighbours.
Operating as a VPP, the network uses AI to help manage supply and demand for the electricity grid, taking stored electricity from participating households’ solar batteries to assist.
For agreeing to the program and remote control of their solar battery, households are compensated through credits on their Origin Energy bill.
The Loop program is currently only open to households within a 50km radius of Sydney’s CBD, Melbourne’s CBD, Brisbane’s CBD, Wollongong, Adelaide or the Gold Coast Metro. Households will also need to have a compatible battery system and inverter, a reliable internet connection and remain an Origin customer for a minimum of five years.
For further details about Origin’s Loop network, it is best to contact the retailer directly.

The Tesla Powerwall is considered to be one of the higher–end solar batteries available in the Australian market, with excellent reviews thanks to its high weather ratings and outdoor setting controls. The Tesla Powerwall is also touted for its deep cycle capacities, high efficiency and compatibility with both new and existing home solar panel systems.
While not the cheapest battery in market by far, the Tesla Powerwall does appear to be one of the gold standards for the industry, and one that is becoming increasingly compatible with VPPs and battery-specific energy plans from several electricity retailers, such as Origin Energy.
