Norway to manufacture counter

Norwegian defense contractor Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a contract to manufacture Cortex Typhon anti-drone systems, which will be then donated to Ukraine, security-focused media outlet Defense Industry Europe reported on Aug. 14.

The total value of the contract is approximately $70 million, according to the report.

Developed recently, Cortex Typhon is a machine gun turret equipped with an observation system. It can be mounted on Dingo armored vehicles, which Norway will also supply to Ukraine.

"This contract will provide a significant capability boost for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will support their ability to protect their people and defend their country against aerial threats," said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

On July 11, Norway quadrupled its budget for military aid to Ukraine to NOK 10 billion ($950 million).

On May 18, Norway's Defense Minister, Bjørn Arild Gram, announced that in collaboration with the UK, Norway will supply Ukraine with up to eight rocket artillery systems and three ARTHUR counter-battery and artillery reconnaissance radars.

On May 31, during the meeting between Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Oslo, it was announced that Norway will develop a five-year military aid program for Ukraine worth a total of EUR 7 billion ($7.63 billion).
